hello all! today i thought i'd chat about CBS. first off - i hate CBS. this whole thing is just about the stupidest mess in the world (save iraq, of course). i'm not mad at CBS about the report they filed - although I am pissed how stupid they were about it. they knew that the memos they had were not the real memos - but they went ahead with the story anyway, mainly because of the contents of the memos was real. they checked and double checked the content of the memos, but not the apperance of the memos - and surprisingly enough it was the appearnace and not the content that mattered. as much as i dislike the gop, sometimes i can't help but be in awe of them. they went to the trouble to re-create these memos, word for word, but in a blatently wrong format. they used the power of tv as a visual medium to their advantage - the words of the mem were correct, but we don't look at words - we look at images. they changed the frame of the story - it was no longer about what damaging things the memos said, but how they had automatic spacing. it's truly astounding when you think about it.

but, i've said all that before. i thought CBS was dumb when they ran a retraction of the memos back pre-election, but to go so far as to fire 3 people over it? it's absolutly insane. from a journalistic standpoint, yes, they should have mentioned the fact that these weren't the original memos - what they said was accurate - and it was fact-checked several times over. so maybe they were a little lax in that, but anyone who has ever watched any local news knows that exxageration is part of the game ("a new disease is spreading in your community, you could be dead in 24 hours without knowing it - stay tuned for the 10:00 news to learn how you can prevent it") so i honestly don't see why CBS is reacting the way they are.

all hail the conservative media bias.

First off hello - stumbled across your blog today after getting bored and reading away messages on IM. Quick question: are you actually saying that the CBS new story about Bush's Texas Air Natl. Guard days was "fake but accurate" as in they based the story on fake memos that just happened to be factually correct? That just seems a bit crazy!
