She was the first woman . . .
Now don't get me wrong - i am very pro-woman, very pro-women who were the first of anything. it's something i totally respect and am trying to find my own first to be - which i am pleased to say is nearly impossible.
BUT am not sure harriet miers is best example of this. yes, she was the first woman hired at this one law firm, first woman to run said law firm, first woman to run a law firm in texas, first woman to be president of dallas bar, first woman president of texas bar society. while this is impressive, somehow it spoke more of how backwards texas is and not how wonderful ms. miers is.
plus i worry about people who don't venture out of their home state every now and then to see what else is out there. esp. if your home state is texas. and coming from california i know it's much harder to do when you're in a big state - but seriously folks - you will never appreciate how great your state really is until you look at the other 49!
in other news, saw 2 tourists on the street in hartford today - felt a little more at home.
