i'm back. i apologize for the delay in the f9/11 blog - but i've had some thinking to do about it (on top of taking the GREs and a friend from home coming into town - yay!). my first reaction to the movie was complete and utter anger, hatred at bush for putting us in this precarious situation. My second thought was to do anything i could to make sure that Bush gets kicked out of office, which for me, means workings even harder at work and talking to as many people as i can about the terrors of bush and the wonders of kerry. but once i started to calm down a little, i started to think about how much i hated bush, and how my love for kerry does not equal that. I wondered how this film would have affected me had i not seen it with an intense inside the beltway crowd on opening night. how do people in oklahoma feel about this movie? what about people in idaho? hell - what about people in castro valley? i have to believe that no logical person can sit through the movie and be like - wow, america is on the right track, bush is doing such a great job - i can't wait till i can vote for him in nov. however, i have an equally hard time believing that these people are leaving the theater saying - wow, john jerry gets me fired up and energized! the democrats are the answer to all these problems, with them our lives will be better. to me all this means is more disillusioned voters. which is bad news for democracy. This was my line for the weekend, and still is - but i was presented with a different concept in a bar last night by some interesting guys from england who had just seen f9/11 - is this just a movie about bush? does it have nothing to do with democrats? is it just a "hey - look at what this guy has done" and not a "get bush out of office" movie? i don't know - but it's something to think about. however, i can't possible be naive enough to think that moore had no political intentions whatsoever when making the film - i don't think it's a coincidence that this film came out the summer before the election, i'm sure moore was hoping for a later release date . . . say october 30th? just as commercial as releasing the passion on palm sunday. but whatever. i also think that people need to stop bitching about the distribution problem he was having as well - there was never a time when this film was not going to be released in america - i don't know why people worry - welcome to the world of hollywood publicity. and it seems to have worked . . . f9/11 has made more money than any other documentary ever, throughout all time. impressive. and on a last ironic note - you have to look forward to this weekend, when all the politics and importance of world affairs will be swept aside by a young man in a red and blue costume swinging from buildings. but hell, i've already got my ticket. god love this country.
