hey hey. so as most of you have probably heard - simon dropped out of the DNC race last week - we're now living in a DNC Chair Dean world. I can't help but have mixed feelings about this. For one, as much as I sometimes bitch about it - Simon is a visionary and would have made a fabulous DNC chair - I think better than Dean. I'm not knocking Dean the person, or even Dean the politician - I just feel that Dean is sometimes too polarizing. Like, as much as i LOVE Hillary Clinton - i know that there are a lot of people out there (even some dems, shame on them) who don't like her at all. It concerns me that someone who is trying to unify our party is someone who just about a year ago and totally broken it in half. call me crazy.
Policy-wise Dean is a lot closer to Simon than most people think - let's remember he always had balanced budgets and was endorsed by the NRA. he's not a crazy liberal like you think he is - he just took populism to the next level. so in that sense i think he's a good fit - he is moderate, and does understand both the conservative dems and the liberal dems - a good thing in party chair. he also has the foresight to look ahead - which is good. he lead an extremly exciting charge in 2003, and I think we'll need that kind of energy if we want to put up any sort of fight in the coming years. He also energized people my age, and I think we all know how i feel about that.
My concern is really that his supporters are obssesed with him (Deaniacs are not healthy) and people who don't like him HATE him. have you ever met anyone who had a neutral feeling towards him? and i'm not saying i want a boring guy in the job - not someone like martin frost who doesn't mean anything to anyone, i just hope that all democrats will be able to capture and embrace dean's energy and that he will make a valiant attempt to bring everyone into the fold.
we'll see . . .
