happy st. patricks day! not much to report today - just 2 things that made me crack a huge smile on my way to work the past 2 days.

1. yesterday i wore flip flops to work (not at all out of the norm for me, and honestly it wasn't that far out there). walking from my apt to the metro, however, i noticed that nearly every single person i walked past looked at me, looked at my feet and either sighed or looked disaprovingly at me. after the like 15th person did this to me i couldn't help but laugh. sometimes it's nice to know i'm not in the washington mold.

2. walking to work today in my birkies (no looks today - just yesterday with the purple flip flops - interesting) and green sweater i walked past this big irish guy blasting bagpipe music out of his beat up truck at 9:00am. doesn't get much better than that. again, coudln't help but laugh.

on a different note - when did it become optional to wear green on st. patrick's day? i'm like the only person (save one intern) at work who seemed to remember. i've been trying to resist the urge to pinch everyone - i don't think it would go over that well :)

on a side note: why is everyone freaking out about bill being a "first lady?" everyone is like "how will bill be satisfied picking out china patterns and throwing parties!?" like first ladies, being subservient women, have been so thrilled with it. and yes, i know some first ladies have broken that mold (i.e. hillary and eleanor) but it just adds to this "women belong in the kitchen" stereotype that is so aggrivating and out-dated.

i can't wait for this campaign, and if all it acocmplishes is making a woman president a hard reality and possibilty it'll be a huge success. it's about time we were taken seriously, finally. i have to say i am so proud and so excited to be alive and young and active in a time where the prospect of a woman nominee like hillary is a real possibility - it's incredibly exciting and i can't wait to see what happens
