just a quick blog to welcome the oakland a's back to a winning season. i'd like to take this opporutnity to remind everyone of a time, a few months ago, when the a's record was less than stellar. i believe i was heard telling several people "just wait till after the all-star break, we're always much better after the all star break" and now we've won 17 of our past 24 games. so i don't want to say i told you so - but this is why people are always shocked by how well the a's do. they don't pay attention and then all of a sudden we're back in lead of our division or winning the wild card - and while we're not there yet - i have no doubt we will be shortly. welcome back boys.

so this morning, walking out of my hartford ymca i notice a guy purchasing a usa today. i of course judged him on the spot. probably doesn't know who john roberts is or who sandra day o'connor was. we're lucky if he knows who dick cheney is. and it was then that i realized you can take the insider outside of the beltway but you can't that the beltway out of the insider - or something like that.
anyway, i hear dc is treacherous right now and dems and reps won't even talk to each other. here in ct they are best friends - it's like some sort of weird alternate universe that i'm still not toally comfortable in. like, the other day we were at a happy hour and one of these people's friends walks up and joins us - turns out to be the governor's son - the republican governor's son (don't even get me started on his loafers, khaki shorts and crisp white "governor's cup" white golf polo shirt). i of course look away automatically and shun him. but no - people talk to him! and not just about stupid meaningless stuff like the weather! it was crazy! needless to say i did not know what to do with myself. this can't be normal . . . or maybe this is how the rest of the country lives - interesting.
